After completing her Masters in Applied Molecular Microbiology and PhD in Genetics from the University of Nottingham, Dr Saloni Mittal moved to Birmingham in 2011 to work as a postdoctoral Research Fellow on a collaborative research project between the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and University of Birmingham. Dr Mittal joined UHB’s R & D team in 2013 as a Clinical Research Officer and is currently working as a NIHR/General Surgery Project Manager. Dr Mittal manages a million pound research grant from the National Institute for Health Research’s Invention for Innovation (i4i) programme. The project, titled “Transforming treatment of fistula-in-ano: a novel bioresorbable Seton-Scaffold device” is a three year project involving UHB, University of Birmingham and multiple Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs). She also manages the overall General Surgery research portfolio at UHB.
