Bio

Sarah gained her PhD in 2006 from the University of Nottingham. Following this, she undertook a post-doctoral position at Keele University, researching cancer gene regulation and working with the clinical team at University Hospitals of North Staffordshire.

She then moved into clinical trial management, with responsibility for managing a large multi-centre Clinical Trial of an Investigational Medicinal Product (CTIMP) stroke trial and has been involved in all stages of clinical research – from design, grant applications, delivery and management, to close out and dissemination. She has worked closely with the West Midlands Stroke Research Network and has extensive experience in grant development, the research regulatory approval process, research and development management, and regulatory inspections.

In 2012, Sarah joined Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust as a research portfolio manager, leading on the academic research portfolio and associated grant development. Sarah is now Head of Research Governance at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB).
