After completing her nurse training in Manchester, Jo specialised as an ITU nurse at Harefield Hospital, where she developed her career in transplantation and research. Jo then joined University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) in 1991 and has since held various positions, including Deputy Research and Development Manager and Clinical Manager of the NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility.

Currently as Director of Research, Development and Innovation, Jo is responsible for the operational management and delivery of research activity at UHB, and regularly advises on research and development operations nationally and regionally. She has presented and published at several national and international research meetings on research and development process and research workforce capacity planning.
