Funding

The Birmingham Clinical Research Facility receives infrastructure funding from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to carry out experimental medicine research.

The funding received from the NIHR does not cover the running costs of the facility so we ask that investigators submitting grants and commercial research projects get in touch early on to discuss the project running through the CRF and our costs.
Originally funded by the Wellcome Trust in 2000 the CRF has received recurrent funding from the NIHR.

In 2022 the NIHR announced a new award of £12.9million over 5 years for Birmingham CRF which will continue to provide patients with opportunities to participate in complex research projects in an ageless approach to care – from pregnancy and newborn babies through childhood, adulthood and to old age.
