Information for Researchers

Is it research?

Research-type methods are often used in studies that are not always themselves regarded as research; these could include clinical audits, service evaluations or public health surveillance.

Research is governed differently from the other types of studies, and will usually require regulatory approval and formal approval by the Trust R&D Office.

Studies that are not classed as research should not be portrayed as research in publications.

Although clinical audit and service evaluations are not subject to regulatory oversight, they should be registered with the Trust’s  Governance department.

If having considered the published guidance you are unsure whether your project should be classified as research, please seek advice from the Clinical Audit team in the first instance.
